10/27/22 – MEL is seeking an analyst/technician to conduct routine analysis of environmental samples, primarily metals. In this role, you will use ICP-AES and other techniques to analyze water, wastewater and solid materials. Responsibilities include following appropriate laboratory SOPs and QA/QC procedures, preparation of standards and reagents, performing data reduction, maintenance of equipment and analytical instrumentation.

Job hours are: Mon- Friday, 8am – 5pm. Possibility for 4 day workweek, Monday – Thursday, 7am-6pm after established familiarization and proven competency.

Starting date: 11/28/22 (flexible).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Analyze environmental samples according to laboratory SOPs.

· Prepare standards and reagents.

· Keep up-to-date the stock of consumables, reagents and materials necessary for the proper functioning of the testing protocols.

· Review results and enter them in LIMS (laboratory information management system).

· Perform first level maintenance on equipment.

· Report to Lab Director any observed deficiencies in equipment.

· Follow documentation, safety, chemical hygiene, hazardous and universal waste, and data integrity policies and procedures.

· Participate in collective storage and cleaning tasks.

Requirements:

· Ability to organize and prioritize workload and be flexible should priorities change.

· Attention to detail.

· Must have the ability to multitask and work in a high production setting.

· Proficient with computer software programs such as Microsoft Office suite.

· Familiarity with basic laboratory science techniques such as a balance and pipette and a familiarity with basic scientific principals is required.

· Knowledge of chemistry principles and analytical instrumentation is a plus.

· Team player with a positive attitude and sense of humor.

Education:

· Bachelor or Associate Degree in science field such as Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Sciences is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered. At least 24 credit hours (or equivalent) of chemistry especially preferred.
